Eco Max Eco Friendly Foot Brush

$9.95

or 4 payments of $2.49 with Afterpay

This eco max foot brush is handmade from unbleached natural coconut fibre and rubberwood. The bristle gives a great scrub to feet – feels great and works well! Great to get summer ready feet. Can also be hung outside, won’t rot in the weather, and can be used as well as a gardening brush to clean your hands.

The Eco Max Range is environmentally-friendly, biodegradable and entirely handmade – products utilize waste products and natural materials that can replace plastics in the kitchen.

Using Fair Trade principles all the handmade components use natural unbleached materials, such as Alistonia timber and natural sisal or waste products, such as the coco fibre from the husk of the coconut, and rubber wood, a waste product from rubber production. Even the sealant used on the timber is a non-toxic toy paint sealer and the wire is galvanised so it won’t rust. At the end of their life the Eco Max Range can be put into your compost bin where they will breakdown naturally leaving only a piece of wire to throw out.

Our Eco Max Brushes are handmade in Sri Lanka by a small family run business that prides itself on creating beautiful, sustainable brushes while providing employment and training for women. Handed down from father to daughter, Liza now runs the factory in Wattala, which trains and employs women from a slum close to the new express way. This training and work allows the women to earn a living wage and a bonus scheme increases their weekly pay. Their children are also encouraged to continue their studies and pursue further education.

Unfortunately the slum is prone to flooding and during the wet season the women and their family are often forced to leave their home and move into the factory. There has been ongoing negotiation with government about relocating these families to flood free land close by and it is hoped that this will occur this year. The company has put aside extra finances to help with the women’s relocation which will allow, with the amount provided by the government, for them to rebuild their homes. Rather than retire, Liza’s father is now training women to make brushes in Kurunegala, an area where employment opportunities are limited. He hopes to set up a training centre in Jaffna in the near future.

Eco Max Brushes use only natural vegetable fibres, are biodegradable and sustainable. The brushes are registered with The Vegan Society and our partners who supply the range are working closely with the women to develop new brushes using new fibres

CARE: Rinse, shake and hang to dry.
